First annual Kenneth G. Jones / Blount County Education Foundation Memorial Grant
Ken Jones was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf. Although Ken never set any world records in these sports, he will be continued to be remembered for his great contributions in the education of students at Cleveland High School. Ken began his teaching career in Marshall County at DAR, but soon found his home here in Blount County, as a Junior High Science and Driver's Education Teacher at Cleveland.
It was in his classes that he lit the candle in many students' minds to continue their thirst for knowledge. Many of those students are now doctors, dentist, nurses, lawyers, educators and public servants.
It is only fitting that we memorialize Ken Jones and continue his legacy by placing tools in the hands of the classroom teacher, who will continue to light the flame of knowledge in the minds of their students.
The first annual Kenneth G. Jones / Blount County Education Foundation Endowed Grant of $750 was awarded to Miss Danette Tawbush of Cleveland High School on November 20, 2009.
The school and the community would like to thank everyone who generously supported this endeavor. A special thanks to Larry Sorrow for providing this information.
